Panasonic HC X2000 XLR mic issue

When I try to attach a Sony xlr microphone onto the panasonic hc x2000, there is no audio captured by the mic. The only thing coming out of the mic seems to be white noise. I tried every setting I could on the side panel but nothing qorked.
